jazz1-150x1501There have been many jazz festivals held across America, but few have lived up to the expectation of
presenting the best in contemporary jazz in the backdrop of nostalgic maestros of.

However, the annual North Beach Jazz Fest of San Francisco has consistently committed itself to this cause and presents the best of jazz talents through a week-long celebration that has now gained global fame. The flavor is truly international but the influence of North Beach’s resident haunts like the Coffee Gallery,
the Jazz Workshop, the Bagel Shop and Basin Street West is usually very palpable.

The North Beach Fest has always made a deliberate attempt to promote the homegrown talent that is in abundance among the jazz clubs of SF. Internationally, this Festival is often called the ‘Soul of San Francisco’ and it maintains this reputation by hosting a plethora of indoor & outdoor events, including many free-of-charge jazz performances, over a week of unending musical gigs.

Few folks realize that this is also a forum for innovative artists who are trying to incorporate the basic elements of jazz in their music.
Expectations for 2009 — there will be more than 200 native and global artists that will entertain audiences this year from Jul 20 to Jul 26 as the Fest enters its fifteenth year. On an average, live audiences of up to 50,000 are expected and this season, the attendance is expected to be even more as more people realize that this is the premier urban music festival in SF.

The Fest usually begins with its popular dose of free music shows that are held at the Washington Square Park, featuring some of the breakthrough international jazz groups. This year’s highly-anticipated performances include FORT KNOX 5, Mancub and Syd Gris performing at the Paradise Lounge. The SF Regency Center will host the Spectrum Festival
that will showcase the latest entrants on the San Francisco jazz scene that have made a serious impression.
