bayThe San Francisco Bay Area or just the ‘Bay’ refers to the highly-commercialized and economically-diverse region of North California that surrounds the San Pablo and the San Francisco Bay. The Bay presents a unique blend of natural world beauty that is found in the backdrop of ever-increasing industrialization and ethnic diversity that is characteristic of San Francisco neighborhoods. The San Francisco Bay Area is comprised of four main regions in the form of:

North Bay — the North Bay region of the San Francisco Bay area represents an area that lies north of the world-famous Golden Gate Bridge. It consists of some major counties like the Marin County, the Sonoma County and the Napa County. North Bay is regarded as the more affluent part of San Francisco and all the counties represent an upwardly mobile section of the society.

San Francisco City — the city of San Francisco has become synonymous with the multi-cultural diversity that defines contemporary America. San Francisco city is also the most densely populated area of the San Francisco Bay region. It is regarded as the commercial and financial capital of the San Francisco Bay Area. San Francisco is home to some distinct neighborhoods that have carved a niche for themselves over the years.

The Castro is today regarded as the most vibrant among the cohesive communities that populate San Francisco. Deco Ghetto is increasingly emerging as a slightly upmarket part of San Francisco with its numerous cafés and bars. Chinatown has a remarkable blend of Asian arts and crafts and is unrivalled in the entire San Francisco bay for the shopping options it presents.

Peninsula — the stretch from San Francisco to the South Bay is a part of the San Francisco Peninsula and is hence, often called the ‘Peninsula’. This area consists of small communities, many of which are still a bit rural and some other suburban counties.

East Bay — the eastern part of the San Francisco Bay area is home to some popular San Francisco neighborhoods. Downtown Berkeley is regarded as a perennial haunt for modern-day hippies and college youth. Fourth Street is the more upscale shopping district of Berkeley. Gourmet Ghetto is regarded as the food district of East Bay with its pursuit of excellence in world cuisines. Rockridge is the slightly educated of San Francisco Bay neighborhoods with its host of cafes and gourmet restaurants that are found here along with numerous bookstores and antique shops.
